12 week twin belly

Babies are the size of limes this week. You can see that I am still squeezing into non-maternity clothes at this point. But barely. I had to go out and get maternity jeans and tops ASAP.

Merry Christmas!

Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas!

We told the rest of the extended family that didn't know yet so it was a fun celebration. Though it is getting pretty obvious at this point that I am pregnant!

Got to spend time with our nephew Oscar (who was very excited over some jammies) and my cousin Mark and wife Sarah's kids Sam and Leah (tea parties all night long).

11 week twin belly

Babies are the size of figs this week. I am getting really bad silent hiccups all the time. The doctor said that's normal though. I only have one or two but it happens about once a hour.

Holy morning sickness

I had felt a little nauseous here and there from the moment I tested positive, but it didn't really pick up until week six. And then I felt awful morning, noon and night. I took B6 and zofran but it still didn't curb it. Luckily, I was still hungry all the time, and although I felt like throwing up, I usually kept my food down. So the twins were getting their nutrients.

6 1/2 week twin belly

Twin "belly" at 6 1/2 weeks.
6 week twin belly
After learning a week ago we had twins in there, we are starting to adjust to it and the shock is wearing off and the excitement is building.

6 week twin ultrasoundWe had the scan at the hospital on Nov. 16th and followed up with my doctor on the 20th. The office was really busy and she was running behind. We waited about an hour and a half until we finally saw her. She apologized and she had to rush out the door to deliver a baby at the hospital across the street but wanted to do a quick ultrasound since this was my first pre-natal appointment with her. I told her at that point that the hospital had told us the twin news. She was really surprised and did a quick, quick ultrasound. Like about one minute long. She said she was really sorry, it looked like one twin didn't make it and we probably had vanishing twin syndrome. She apologized again, said she had to leave to deliver the baby and told us to schedule another ultrasound for the next day with the tech on the better machine (this was a small on that rolled into the office.)

When she left we were both stunned. Everything was fine four days ago! I knew nothing about vanishing twin but spent the next 24 hours on the computer researching it. The doctor called me that night and apologized again for rushing out. She also said it was possible both babies were still okay and not to worry too much until we had the follow up.

We went in on the 21st and low and behold, the first thing the tech says is "two babies, two heart beats." Huge sigh of relief. Heartbeats were 107 and 109 at six weeks 4 days. Doctor was very embarrsed and apologetic after that! But all's well that ends well right?

Big Surprise on Ultrasound... TWO HEARTBEATS

Here is the story of when we first found out we were going to have twins!

At five weeks five days, I had a little bleeding. And it was red. And kind of a lot. I was obviously freaking out and assuming the worst. It was a Friday afternoon, and the doctor couldn't get me in (we had an appointment anyway for Tuesday). We debated waiting a few days or just going into the emergency room but I decided I would go crazy all weekend without getting checked out first.

We went to Fairview Hospital expecting to hear bad news. We were both really upset but trying to stay optimistic.

When they finally called me for my ultrasound, I had to leave Darren behind (they won't let the fathers come into the room at the hospital for some reason). I knew the pregnancy was so early that it was very possible everything was fine and they still wouldn't be able to see anything on the scan, but I was hoping they would be able to tell me something.

The ultrasound tech's name was Kathleen Marie, which is my sister's name so I instantly had a good feeling. She took a long time doing the scan and I was starting to get really nervous. She was asking me a TON of questions about when I ovulated, my medical history, etc. Then she asked if I was taking any fertility drugs. No... why??? I still did not connect this with the possibility that she was seeing two babies in there. I really thought she couldn't see anything and that I had already miscarried. Finally the tech told me she was going to show me her screen (they don't show you at the hospital like they do at the doctor's office). So she flipped the screen towards me and said, "Here's your baby's heart beat. And here's the other baby's heart beat." I was literally stunned. I just started laughing and crying at the same time. She said they don't usually do this in the emergency room, but since they never get twins in there she was going to print me off a picture to take to my husband. Both heartbeats were at 100 and they were measuring where they should be.

When they wheeled me back into the room, Darren was expecting bad news. But since I was smirking and not crying, he knew something was up. I handed him the photo and put two fingers up. He looked at the picture and then looked up and me with such a mixture of confusion, joy and panic.

We immediately texted our parents and the few ppl that knew about the pregnancy at this point (and that I had gone to the hospital expecting bad news) and everyone was both stunned and over joyed. The bleeding stopped the next day. Apparently I had a small blood clot but it ended up not being anything to worry about.

BFP

We got our big fat positive on Halloween. This was 9 days past ovulation, or 9DPO (five days before my missed period) for those of you that understand TTC (trying to conceive)  language. It was the day after Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast and even in Ohio we had a lot of storm damage and we lost power the night before. So I took a pregnancy test in the dark with a flashlight.

Obviously I had no idea at this moment that we were going to have twins. The only slight tip off was that I was already starting to feel a little nausea, even before the four week mark. I also took a second pregnancy the next day and the faint line was instantly dark. MY initial HCG was 50.9 at 10 DPO and progesterone was 29.8.
